Itinerary
DAY 1 | ARRIVE AT TULUDI, KHWAI PRIVATE RESERVE
Today, you’ll fly from Maun to our private airstrip in Khwai Private Reserve and arrive at Tuludi in time for an afternoon game drive, sundowners and all. Located in the heart of the Khwai Private Reserve in a landscape fit for a fairy-tale. Sleep in a tree-house style room shaded by the boughs of cool leadwood trees where the sophisticated interiors mix the contemporary with the traditional. It’s an exclusive oasis that you’ll be delighted to return to after a day exploring the extraordinary ecosystem. The floodplains around Tuludi aren’t simply beautiful, they are also the perfect location for enormous herds of elephant and buffalo. There’s no shortage of zebra, giraffe, antelope and other plains game. Spend your afternoon lounging in your private plunge pool, surrounded by the beauty of this extraordinary wilderness
DAY 2 - 3 | EXPLORE KHWAI PRIVATE RESERVE
These days are yours to explore the magical reserve as you wish, on a mokoro, game drives or walking safari. With a 200,000-hectare area of pristine wilderness to play around it, this is one of the most beautifully iconic landscapes in Botswana. Mopane clusters jostle for space with riverine forest, pretty waterholes dot the floodplains, and waterways wind their way across the landscape from the Khwai River. Bursting with all the signature wildlife, Khwai Private Reserve has an excellent reputation for hiding the rarer species of the animal kingdom, including wild dogs, serval cats and honey badgers. Your evenings will be spent enjoying a private fine dining experience, either in the privacy of your tented room, or in a secluded setting near the dining area, lounge and firepit. Whatever tickles your fancy, each night there will be romance in the air.
DAY 4 | TRANSFARE TO SAN CAMP, MAKGADIKGADI PANS
Swap the luscious landscapes of Khwai for the salt-baked earth of the Makgadikgadi Pans. Home for the next few nights is San Camp, an impossibly romantic camp where the magic is in the minimalism. San Camp is one of the most wonderfully romantic camps on the continent. Nine tents, enveloped by billowing white canvas and flowing linen, look out over the shimmering expanse of salt ahead and each has a perfectly-private veranda from which to enjoy it from. At the main area, cakes and scones are piled high on brass platters, drinks are served in crystal glasses, and the water of the swimming pool sparkles invitingly.
DAY 5 - 6 | EXPLORE MAKGADIKGADI PANS
If you can tear yourself away from camp, explore the pans on quad bikes, on foot with the Bushmen, on game drives, or even atop a horse! And the swimming pool awaits when you return home… A living desert and intriguing landscape, the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans form a large part of the Kalahari Basin and the shimmering, salt-baked setting is iconic in its beauty and size. You might think at first glance that not a soul could survive in the bizarre environment of the Makgadikgadi – but spend a few days here and you’ll uncover a myriad of wildlife. f you’re looking to tick a few species off your bird list, then sharpen your pencil for the pan is home to Kori bustards and northern black korhaan, chestnut-backed finch larks and capped wheatears. Meerkats pop up from the desert dust, nomadic elephant wander and Kalahari, black-maned lion can sometimes be found, wandering further afield. One of the icons of the pan is the brown hyena. The third rarest carnivore in Africa, they are animals that are almost impossible to see anywhere else on the continent.
